Dia de los Muertos

Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico go back to pre-Hispanic era. Day of the Dead would be the ninth month on the Aztec calender to celebrate goddess Mictecacihuatl "Lady of the Dead". But today, November 1st is the day to remember children and infants, November 2nd is the day to remember adults. On these days families usually clean and decorate graves of their loved ones. They will leave offerings such as, "Flor de Muertos", toys, favorite candles, and liquor (for adults). Offerings are also in homes, Pan de Muerto "Bread of the dead", sugar skulls, are left at home for welcoming the dead back to their home. Some people also build altars or shrines at home, with candles and usually religious symbols such as a picture of the Virgin Mary.

Symbols

The most common symbol of Dia de los Muertos is a skull. There are also sugar or chocolate skulls. Foods include Pan de Muerto are usually made during Dia de los Muertos. Another very popular symbol are catrinas.

Puerto Rico News- Egg Launch aganist Luis Fortuno

FAJARDO - Gov. Luis Fortuño abruptly ended a news conference at the boat terminal of the municipality where a citizen threw an egg that hit a sign that read "Investment $ 8.2 million.
Fortuño came to the area this morning to announce a project to improve the boats that carry passengers to the island municipalities of Vieques and Culebra.
Just when the president said that the vessels be repaired in Fajardo to create new jobs in the municipality, a protester stood up, yelled "hypocrite, how dare you talk about jobs if you're removing the" and threw an egg.
Fortuño, who, as he spoke he opened a bottle of water because he had drowned, ducked. The projectile struck the sign for the government announcement.
Police officers spoke with the protester, identified as Robert Garcia Diaz, 44, and dragged him to a formal car. Meanwhile, the citizens shouted "I will kill" and "Fortuño will kill you." When asked the name, shouted "I am a regular guy like you."
Fortuño left the area in a hurry. "I have nothing to say, because you the press decided to let me alone," he complained.
Meanwhile, and before the eyes of dozens of police, protesters had arrived in the area chanting "The people demand justice" and "coward Fortuño.
Garcia Diaz was transported to the barracks of Fajardo, where they evaluated the filing of charges against him.
His wife, identified as Jovina Rodriguez said it was fine but complained of having received a kick and had marks on his wrists from the handcuffs. Rodriguez said her husband is a former employee of the Roosevelt Roads naval base. He saw the incident as a possible act of desperation on the part of the man who has five children.
Attorney Luis Pinto Andino assume the legal representation of the demonstrator, but while the judicial robes was shipped from the metropolitan area to Fajardo, Lic Hilda Figueroa arrived at headquarters to ensure that you are not violate constitutional rights.
Meanwhile, a police officer involved in the investigation came up with the cartel's headquarters hit by the egg that gave Garcia Diaz.
Fortuño reacts
After being hit with an egg by a protester, the Governor said he would give space for workers to speak out, but violence is not an option.
Fortuño said that everyone can differ from the thousands of layoffs, but passively and respectfully.
As for the protest in front of La Fortaleza, the President said that although it is a legitimate right to conduct demonstrations, union leaders can not interfere with regular work at the Palacio de Santa Catalina as they did with Camp Dignity and Shame.
Union leaders were violently removed from the area by officers from the Tactical Operations Division.

My Response:

This article was about how a protester that had trew an egg at the Governor Luis Fortuno. The protester was Robert Garcia Diaz. Before Garcia Diaz threw the egg at the Gov. he said " hypocrite, how dare you talk about jobs if your removing the.. ". Garcia Diaz was outraged by the fact that the Governor was making the people of Puerto Rico pay for a boat terminal, that would in turn make new jobs to take away from the current layoff issue.

Gobierno

Isabela is my hometown. Isabela is also kown as El Jardin del Noreste which means garden of the northwest.Puerto Rico isn't divided into states but into 78 muncipalities. Each of which have a mayor and a municipal assembly. Isabela's muncipality is at the northwest of the island.

In Puerto Rico each town has a festival to honor it's patron saint. The festivals last up to a week, with dances, food, parades and religious ceremonies. There are also carnivals celebrating saints. Sometimes there are a special festivals in certain towns to celebrate special saint, stories and location, such as Yuco's Festival Nacional de Cafe

Puerto Rico-Lugares Importantes

Fort San Felipe del Morro( also refered to as El Morro) is an imporant place in Puerto Rico. Fort San Felipe del Morro is a citadel that is in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Named in honor of Philip ll of Spain. When Puerto Rico was controlled by Spain it survied many attacks by other countries. El Morro's last attack was with the United States Navy in 1898. Then during World War l the U.S. fired shots at El Morro which was ended with the Treaty of Pairs. Spain gave up ownership of Puerto Rico, Cuba, Guam, Philippines to the United States. Durning War World ll, El Morro was used as a Harbor Defence Fire Control Station. Finally, in 1961 the U.S. army retired El Morro and then tured it into a National Park and museum.

Puerto Rico- Comida

This is Sopa de arroz con pollo. It is a famous Puertorican soup. This dish includes rice, chicken, lemon juice, potatoes, and sometimes vegetables. People would normally eat this as an appetizer not as a main meal. This soup is also severed steaming hot.

Puerto Rico- Gobierno

Puerto Rico is in association with the United States. The chief of state is the President of the United States of America( Barack Obama). Puerto Rico has control of its internal affiars. The U.S. controls miltary services, laws, most areas are controlled by the federal government. The Executive Power is the Governor, Puerto's Rico's governor is Anibal Acevedo-Vila who has been in office since Jan. 2005. Puerto Rico is not divided into countries, but they have 78 municipos, each is governed by an elected mayor.
